Beware of Questar Gas. They'll shut off your gas without even a phone call

Questar Gas, formerly Mountain Fuel, is Utahns only choice for natural gas service. They're kind of a like a public utility, except that they're not.

I recently had an experience with Questar Gas that opened my eyes to how shady they are. My father almost died and was in the hospital for about a month. During this time, I forgot to send in a single month's Questar gas bill. It was less than $50.

Most companies might give you a call and remind you that you haven't paid your bill. Questar doesn't do that. What they do is send their bill collectors to your house to issue a 48-hour shutoff notice. If you're not home, they stick this notice on the door.

I happened to be home when the Questar collections thug came to my home. I asked them politely why they didn't just give me a 30 second phone call rather than sending a goon to threaten me with shutoff? (I didn't use the word goon to him, but he was definitely a goon)

His response was that Questar has no interest in calling you. Their policy is to just send out the thugs.

I called Questar and talked to a customer service representative. I asked her about this and she reiterated what the collections goon told me. They have no interest in making a quick phone call to you if you miss a payment. They would rather just send out the thugs.

Thanks Questar, you make me proud!
